Victoria isn’t available on DVD- I plan to contact the production company to see if they might be willing to give me a copy, or, failing that, if they’d be open to a screening here in LA. The only thing I know about Anna’s TV movies is that they’re very hard to find… the search continues.
I only upload the films that don’t have proper DVD releases or don’t have English subtitles.
Also- sorry that posting’s been light lately. I’ve got some old friends in town, so I’m busy with them.
It was released in Portugal in 1964. See here.
Nope, not Brazilian Portuguese… regular old Portugal Portuguese. It doesn’t much matter, though- it’s a very, VERY poor quality VHS rip. Here’s a screencap:

That’s full size. Pretty bad, as you can see. If I can get the French one worked out, that’ll be much better.
I worked for a big search engine company until recently. I now do freelance writing and am setting up a vintage clothing business.
1.) Yes. I should have English subtitles available for Chloe in the future.
2.) Yes, I just watched it last night, my review is here.
3.) I have Treasure Island, but I haven’t watched seen it yet.
4.) No, I’m just in the preliminary research gathering phase at the moment. I don’t plan to contact Anna until I have more substantial material and a proper book proposal. I’m certainly not the most well-credentialed person available to write this book, so I’d like my work to cast a shadow over my lack of experience. I’ll hopefully have it finished by the end of 2012.
Excellent! Well, I would recommend Ce soir ou jamais because this was the first site to release it with English subtitles (thanks to the lovely youcantjudgeavinylbyitscover). It’s not high art or anything- it’s just a silly comedy- but it’s fun. Anna, the 1967 musical with Serge Gainsbourg, is an absolute must. La Religieuse and Le soldatesse are Anna’s best performances- the former is available here. Chinesisches roulette is one of her best 70’s appearances. As for her more recent work, I think her role (and costuming) in Moi cesar is pretty great.
I feel you, Anon. I’m sure a lot of you out there in Tumblr land won’t like this, but I can’t stand Zooey Deschanel. It’s all style over substance with her- the only thing she has in common with Anna is her hairstyle. She has zero range as an actress and plays the same “manic pixie dream girl” character over and over again… it’s quite tiresome, really. Anna is a highly skilled actress who consistently accepted challenging and varied roles throughout her career. By the time she was 30 years old, she’d worked in films all over the globe with several of the world’s most celebrated directors. And where’s Zooey at 30? She’s never left Hollywood and now has a sitcom on Fox. “The new Anna Karina”? Please.
Anna is turning 71 on Thursday, and in celebration of her birthday I figured I’d upload one of her films- De l’amour was one of the ones I was thinking of uploading. Of the following three films, which one would you guys rather see? I’ll close the poll out tomorrow night and upload the winner Thursday morning. If you’re viewing this on your Tumblr dash, you’ll have to click through from the gray box below to vote.
Unless your name is something like “Princess Grace of Monaco” and that’s your official title, I think using the word “princess” to refer to an adult woman is demeaning. If you do wind up reading the book, please let me know how it is. I’m tempted to buy a copy even though I don’t know Spanish.
Thank you. Anna left Jean-Luc for the actor Maurice Ronet in 1964, and their divorce became final in 1965. I wouldn’t call their separation “friendly”- their relationship had always been acrimonious, and matters didn’t really improve much after the break up- but they did continue to work together for several years afterward. Despite the fact that Anna herself refers to Jean-Luc as being her “greatest love”, I’m of the opinion that he treated her badly and she was much better off without him.
It’s called La Princesa de la Nouvelle Vague (I know I’m biased, but jeez… what a horrible title) and is being released this month by a Spanish publisher. I’m writing a book about Anna myself, which is currently in the preliminary stages. My book will be in English.
You’re welcome. Unfortunately, I don’t have the answers to any of these questions yet… they’ll hopefully be in my book, though :)
Anna is currently rated #1 on HuffPo’s list (which is great- it’s always nice to see her in the press), but I’m in a little grossed out by their describing her as a “starlet.” As the reader who sent me this link said, “she’s not a ‘starlet’- she’s the female face of the French New Wave.” Agreed.
Anna sings a newer version of “Hier ou demain”.
I do, and I just started updating it again. You can find me at unpetitgateau.tumblr.com
