“One day Jean-Luc and I were sitting in a cafe in Boulevard St. Michel and we heard these two students talking about My Life to Live. One was screaming, ‘I love this picture!’ and the other one, who had his back to us, was saying, ‘I hate spending money on this kind of shit.’ And Jean-Luc tapped him on the back, gave him ten francs and said, ‘OK, you didn’t like my picture. Why don’t you go and see a picture you really like?’ The guy was very red-faced and apologetic.”

Anna Karina: Cover Girl
Our Lady of the Nouvelle Vague will be gracing the LP cover of the upcoming Ace International release Tres Chic! More French Girl Singers of the 1960s. The compilation features Anna’s rendition of “Sous le soleil exactement” from 1967’s Anna, as well as tracks from France Gall, Françoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot, Liz Brady and several other fabulous Gallic femmes. The LP drops June 23rd on 180g blue vinyl. Don’t have a record player? A CD is also available, but be advised that Gillian Hills (of “Zou Bisou Bisou” fame) is on the cover of that version. No matter which format you chose, this is part of a great series from a great label. Don’t miss out!
